What are the precautions for grinding Titanium Rod and Grade

Due to the tendency of titanium alloy material to fill the grinding wheel, it brings difficulties to the grinding of titanium alloy rod and Grade 5 titanium alloy. During grinding, the higher temperature rise at the interface between metal and grinding wheel causes higher residual stress on the grinding surface, and the surface finish is not ideal.

These difficulties can be basically solved by adopting the following methods:

(1) select a suitable grinding wheel, such as silicon carbide grinding wheel. The sand particle size is medium (60 ~ 80), the hardness is medium (J ~ m), and the surface speed is 700 ~ 1200m / min. the alumina (aluminum oxide powder or corundum) grinding wheel should be used at a lower speed, such as 550 ~ 600min. Medium grain size is also required.

(2) adopt lower grinding wheel speed and feed speed; Due to the low speed of grinding wheel, less sparks are generated.

(3) good results can be obtained by cooling with buffer or cutting fluid coolant, ceramic binder and chlorinated or vulcanized cutting oil. No matter what type of coolant is used, it should be well filtered to eliminate the "fishtail" stain caused by titanium particle recycling.

(4) the spark of titanium may catch fire in case of oil mist, but this danger can be reduced by completely immersing the workpiece with oil. Antirust ammonium nitrite aqueous solution can completely eliminate the risk of fire.
however, even the best grinding conditions will reduce the fatigue performance of the workpiece.
